Course Instructor: Tom Rhine
Course is taught from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (with ½ hour lunch break)
1) Classroom instruction of the parts of the shoe/boot and its function.
2) Classroom and occupational training on different tools and hand tools.
3) Classroom instruction and occupational training of usage of the various nails (including nail size, types of nails)
4) Classroom and occupational training of materials such as: glues, leathers, rubbers.
5) Classroom and occupational training of the different pieces of equipment and how to operate and maintain them
6) Classroom and occupational training on specific equipment:
McKay stitcher: out-of-sole stitcher
Heal pull wheel
Auto sole and nailer
Use of sander and finisher
Pattern design 3-in-one (leather cutter, welt roller, skiver the sole)
7) Occupational training on shoe/boot teardown.
8) Occupational training on shoe/boot repair.
9) Occupational training on how to do half soles and heels.
10) Occupational training on how to do whole soles.
11) Occupational training on rip repair.
12) Occupational training on zipper repair or replacement.
13) Occupational training on taps installation.
14) Occupational training on welp repair.
15) Occupational training on sewing and repair on items such as (belts, purses, wallets, tire covers, suitcases, briefcases, etc.).
16) Occupational training on Shoe Shines: cleaning, polishing, and operation of the shoe shine stand.
17) Classroom and occupational training on business practices:
Training on how to operate the cash register and/or computer.
Training customer communication/clear concise information on the repair ticket including pickup date.
Training customer repairs on rush or while you wait orders.
Clear notation of locations for return of repaired shoes/boots other than the main site.
Training on how to batch the register each night.
Training on personal interaction and sales etiquette.
